Have you ever heard of the butterfly effect? In summary, the butterfly effect is the concept that small causes can have large effects. Supposedly, the theory states that if a butterfly flaps its wings on one side of the planet, it could set in motion a chain of events that could cause a typhoon on the other side of the world. Similarly, if you do something kind for the next person that you meet, they are much more likely to be kind or do something kind for the next person they meet, and so on, and so on....

The other day on campus, there was a preacher handing out informational pamphlets for students to learn more about God. Now, I understand that not everyone is religious--but as this man was taking his time out of his day to interact with students, I watched some students swat the pamphlet out of his hand, or completely ignore his offering and pretend like he wasn't there. And, I thought to myself, "How hard is it to just simply smile and say, 'No thank you,'? Why be rude?" Thus, I was inspired to write this blog post.

Below, I have compiled together 30 Random Acts of Kindness. As the new month of May approaches, I encourage my readers to take that month to cause your own butterfly effect in this world!

Now, I must tell you, some of the ideas are simpler than others, and some of them may cause you to step out of your comfort zone. Some of these ideas will even cost a little money, but I hope you realize that the happiness you receive from it will outweigh the cost.

Remember--the goal is to complete this 30 Days of Kindness Challenge in the first 30 days of May, June, July, August, etc...Whenever works best for you. I challenge you to really give this a try--not only will it bring others happiness, but I promise that you will feel good about it too!
